Chronic Pain, Heroin, and the US Epidemic of Opioid Abuse

CBAM’s Dr. Keith Heinzerling discusses the existing opioid addiction epidemic, how patients transition from prescription painkiller addiction to heroin/opioid addiction and the existing treatments available to combat opioid addiction. He also discusses how doctors and patients can work together to prevent addiction in patients with chronic pain.

CBAM is a multidisciplinary center that seeks to advance the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses, especially in communities with health disparities. As part of the UCLA Department of Family Medicine, CBAM works at the intersection of academia and community with a focus on treating addictions and preventing the spread of HIV.
